Our mission is to inspire peace and hope for children in underserved Chicago communities.

ABOUT FERRER FOUNDATION

Ferrer Foundation is a Chicago-based, non-profit organization with a mission to inspire peace and hope for children and young adults living in Chicago's most at-risk communities. Founded in 2007,  Ferrer Foundation is dedicated to enriching the lives of these youth by providing programs and resources to those who are affected by violence. Many of the youth that we serve are now at an age where they want to work. We offer a range of programming and support services including educational wellness, yoga, violence prevention, motivational tools and mentoring. To date, we have served hundreds of children and young adults, helping to break the cycle of violence through direct services and employment opportunities.

At the heart of the Ferrer Foundation is founder and Chicago native, Meghan Olson. The Ferrer Foundation was originally established to honor the life and work of Father Miguel Ferrer. Nearly a decade ago, Ferrer was living in Puerto Rico when Olson’s father was falsely accused of a crime and temporarily incarcerated in Puerto Rico. Father Ferrer’s mentorship, kindness, compassion and faith came at a time when Olson and her family needed it most. And though Father Ferrer passed away shortly after knowing the Olson family, his profound impact and mission continues to live on through the Ferrer Foundation and Meghan Olson’s vision.

KEEPING GROUNDED GREENHOUSE PROGRAM

Ferrer Foundation and Herban Produce partnered in Spring 2017 to launch the Keeping Grounded Greenhouse Program at Herban Produce's 4000 sq. ft. non-profit urban farm, which provides year-round fresh produce to Garfield Park residents and select Chicago restaurant partners. Keeping Grounded provides hands-on horticulture, greenhouse experience and employment opportunities for high school students who need them most— young adults living in violent Chicago communities with limited access to safe havens or quality employment options.
